Install Lucky Orange on Any Website Using Google Tag Manager
Automations
If your website uses Google Tag Manager, Lucky Orange installs in minutes — no backend development, no source code access, no developer required.
Lucky Orange has an official template in the Google Tag Manager Template Gallery. Find it, add your Site ID, set your trigger, and publish. That's the entire process.
Why Install Lucky Orange Through GTM
Google Tag Manager is one of the most common ways teams manage tracking and analytics tools without touching a website's codebase. If GTM is already set up on your site, you can install Lucky Orange the same way you'd add any other tag — through the GTM interface, with no engineering involvement.
This makes GTM the fastest path to getting Lucky Orange running on websites built on any platform: WordPress, Webflow, custom builds, or anywhere else GTM is already deployed.
Before You Start
You'll need a Google Tag Manager account already configured for your website, and you'll need GTM permissions to add tag templates, add tags, and publish changes. If your company restricts publish rights to certain team members, make sure someone with publish access is available before you begin — you'll need them for the final step.
How to Install Lucky Orange Through Google Tag Manager
Step 1: Copy your Lucky Orange Site ID. You'll find it in your Lucky Orange account under Settings. Note: this is your Site ID, not your full tracking code — GTM only needs the ID.
Step 2: Log into Google Tag Manager and select the account and container for the website you want to track.
Step 3: Click Templates in the left navigation, then click Search Gallery under Tag Templates.
Step 4: Search for "Lucky Orange" in the gallery. You'll see two results — use the official Lucky Orange by Lucky Orange template. There is an unofficial third-party template that also appears. Only the official template is maintained by Lucky Orange.
Step 5: Click the Lucky Orange by Lucky Orange option, review the template information and permissions, then click Add to workspace in the upper right corner. Click Add when prompted to confirm.
Step 6: Go to Tags in the left navigation and click New to create a new tag.
Step 7: Name the tag — something like "luckyorangecode" works well. Use lowercase letters and no spaces.
Step 8: Click within the Tag Configuration space, scroll to Custom, and select Lucky Orange. If Lucky Orange doesn't appear, return to Steps 3–5 to confirm the template was added to your workspace.
Step 9: Paste your Lucky Orange Site ID into the Lucky Orange Site ID field.
Step 10: Click the Triggering space and select the All Pages trigger. This ensures Lucky Orange tracks visitor behavior across your entire site.
Step 11: Click Save, then publish your workspace changes. You should see 2 workspace changes — the Lucky Orange template and the Lucky Orange tag.
Once published, Lucky Orange is live on your website. You can verify the installation worked by going to Overview in Lucky Orange and using the Tracking Code verification button.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install Lucky Orange separately if I already use GTM?
Yes — GTM is the delivery mechanism, not the product itself. Installing Lucky Orange through GTM adds the Lucky Orange tracking code to your website so Lucky Orange can start collecting behavioral data. You still need a Lucky Orange account to access heatmaps, session recordings, and all other features.
Which template should I use — the official one or the third-party one?
Always use the official Lucky Orange by Lucky Orange template. The third-party template is community-created and not maintained by Lucky Orange. Using the official template ensures you're getting the current, supported version.
Do I need publish rights in GTM to complete the installation?
Yes. Adding the template and tag can be done without publish rights, but the installation won't go live until the workspace changes are published. If your organization restricts publish access, coordinate with a colleague who has those permissions before starting.
Does Lucky Orange work with GTM on any website platform?
Yes. GTM works independently of your website's platform. Once GTM is installed on a site, you can use it to deploy Lucky Orange on WordPress, Webflow, custom builds, or any other platform — without touching the site's underlying code.
Will Lucky Orange slow down my site if installed through GTM?
No. Lucky Orange's tracking code loads asynchronously regardless of how it's installed. GTM itself also loads tags asynchronously by default, so there's no impact on page load performance.
